Abstract

1,185,431. Continuous casting machines. URALSKY ZAVOD TYAZHELOGO MASHINOSTROENIA IMENI S. ORDZONIKIDZE. 4 March, 1968, No. 10343/68. Heading B3F. [Also in Division G3] Sheet metal is cast continuously by rotating two cooled rolls 3, 4, in opposite directions in a bath of molten metal, such that the metal solidifies over roll surface portions each of which subtend an angle greater than 180 degrees at the central axis of the respective roll, and by withdrawing the sheet 5 from the gap between the rolls. Preferably, one roll is pressed against the sheet being formed by sprung bars (8). One of the bars (8) is connected to a pressure-sensitive device (13) which controls an electric motor (6) which drives the rolls. In this way, the rotational speed of the rolls is controlled to ensure constant thickness of the metal sheet being cast.
