A pasting device of the kind comprising a frame 11 (12) means 22 on the frame for rotatably mounting a roll of material, a roller 17 for applying liquid or paste to the material, a reservoir 13 for the liquid or paste, two guide rollers 34, 35 spaced apart around the upper part of the circumference of the applicator roller 17 and means to mount the guide rollers on the frame for rotation about axes parallel to the roller axis so as to guide the the material around an arcuate portion of the applicator roller, is provided with a spreader element 25 to spread the liquid or paste over the surface of the applicator roll 17 which spreader element is mounted at or near one end of an arm 26 attached at its other end to the frame for pivotal movement about an axis parallel to the axes of the rollers, means 32 being provided for securing arm 26 to the frame at any or at any one of a number of positions whereby to adjust the position of the spreader element relative to the applicator roll. There is preferably an adjustable arm at both ends of the spreader element which may be in the form of a roller or a flexible cord. The guide rollers 34, 35 are preferably mounted by means of axles 36, 38 which extend through notches 39, 40 and are held in operative position by a pivoted arm 41 engaging over the axle ends and lockable in the engaged position by a protrusion 46.
