Abstract

1,183,943. Vacuum brake booster systems. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 20 June, 1967 [30 Sept., 1966], No. 28431/67. Heading F2F. To enable a vehicle driver to sense the braking force exerted in a booster assisted hydraulic brake system, a reaction piston 16 is provided which is slidable in a bore of an extension sleeve member 2a of a booster piston 2. The piston end 16a is subjected to pressure in the brake primary circuit while its other end abuts pedal link rod 5, and thereby pressure is transmitted to the pedal. Likewise a control piston 17 transmits reaction force due to the secondary circuit pressure. The booster piston assembly 2, 2a, a sleeve 10 and a spacer member 20 form the primary piston, slidable in master cylinder chamber 14; while 11 is a secondary piston. If the primary circuit fails the booster piston assembly is moved by atmospheric pressure until spacer 20 abuts a disc 19 on a push rod 18 and the rod 5 and reaction piston 16 are shifted until piston 16 abuts the rod 18. Brakes are thus operated and reaction force is transmitted to the pedal being derived from pressure in the secondary circuit chamber 15 which acts, via bore 21 of piston 11, on the control piston 17 and is transmitted by push rod 18 to piston 16 and via rod 5 to the pedal. The booster piston chamber 3 is always maintained at negative pressure while chamber 4 is alternately at negative pressure and atmospheric pressure, as determined by valves operated by movement of link rod 5.
