Abstract

1,183,565. Tool holders. PRESSEN-UND SCHERENBAU ERFURT VEB. 31 May, 1968, No. 26212/68. Heading B3H. A tool clamping device comprises a doubleacting piston-cylinder assembly 1 whose pistonrod 10 is connected to a pair of parallel bellcrank levers 2 which are pivoted in the housing of the device and pivotally connected at their mid-point to a thrust link 3 connected in turn to a stud head 15 of a clamping stud 4. The stud has a spring mounted flange 9 at its lower end so that the tool can be clamped between a plate 20 on the ram or press bed and the flange. The stud is screwed into the head 15 so that the separation of the flange and plate can be adjusted. The piston-cylinder assembly may be pneumatic or hydraulic and upward movement of the piston-rod causes the stud 4 to pivot inwards until it abuts a stop 8 and then slide upwards. The link 3 and one arm of the bell-crank act as a toggle which is over-stepped at the end of the movement to retain the clamping force. A limit-switch 19 on the housing is connected with the pivot pin 12 to stop the fluid supply. The process is reversed to unclamp the tool. A twin arrangement comprising two clamping devices of the above type may be used, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
