Abstract

1,183,111. Fume cupboards. REDIWELD Ltd. 28 Nov., 1967 [9 March, 1967], No. 11049/67. Heading F4X. [Also in Division E1] A fume cupboard is constructed from rigid panels of a thermoplastic material such as polyvinylchloride, joined together by hot gas welding or other localized heat treatment. In the cupboard shown a baffle 34-37 is located within the cupboard at the back thereof and defines a fume extraction flue of progressively increasing width, discharging into a duct 40. From the duct 40 the fumes are withdrawn either through thermoplastic conduits to a centrifugal fan and thence to atmosphere, or. as shown by an axial flow fan 41. The cupboard has side windows 9 and a front window which is slidable to provide access to the cupboard. Complete closure of the window is prevented by limit stops (21, 22, Fig. 2) on the window frame. The cupboard comprises left and right stiles 3, 4 to which are attached front and side panels 5, 6. The stiles 3, 4 are formed as sash guides (Fig. 4) for a counterweighted sash window 8 comprising the slidable front window and made entirely of P.V.C. sheeting. The sash guides in addition to carrying the usual sash weights (30) also accommodate a tube (29) through which extends electric wiring between the cupboard interior light and fume extraction fan and their respective switches 16, 17. These together with an electrical socket 18 and water and gas controls 14, 15 are mounted in a panel 13 at the front of the cabinet.
