A fume-cupboard of the type used in laboratories has a space behind a rear wall thereof and one or more openings through which fumes can be drawn into the space from the working chamber of the cupboard, means being provided in the space to spray the withdrawn fumes with a washing liquid, the or each opening in the rear wall having an inclined baffle arranged to prevent liquid entering the working chamber.
