Abstract

1,182,974. Fastenings; padlocks. BRAMAH SECURITY EQUIPMENT Ltd. 28 June, 1968 [10 July, 1967], No. 31680/67. Headings E2A and E2B. A lockable fastening for a bolt 1 having a groove 3 co-operable with retaining balls 13 and which either may be used as a stud for securing together parts or elements having registered bores and to one of which a locking bar 14 is secured, as shown, or may be attached to a chain to form a padlock assembly, comprises a housing 4 (as shown formed integrally with the locking bar 14), and a sleeve 6 rotatable within a bore 5 in the housing by means of a key-operated mechanism 11 of any known type, the key being inserted through a bore 22 in the housing, a plurality (three, as shown) of balls 13 being constrained by conical apertures 23 in the sleeve to rotate with the sleeve between positions in which they can be accommodated within depressions 12 in an annular groove in the bore 5, as shown, thus permitting insertion or removal of the bolt 1, and positions in which they are trapped between the annular groove and the sleeve so as to project inwardly to engage the groove 3 and thus retain the bolt.
