Abstract

1,181,849. Bridge bearings. JOSEPH WESTWOOD & CO. Ltd. 27 Aug., 1968 [1 Sept., 1967], No. 40055/67. Heading F2A. A bridge bearing consists of two members 1 and 2 connected for relative rocking movement one of the members having a convex surface and the other having a flat co-operating surface, and a third member 10 on which member 2 may slide. The members 1 and 2 are provided with recesses in which are situated circular plates 3 and 4 forming the co-operating bearing surfaces. A neoprene seal 5 may be provided between the two members 1 and 2. Layers 11 and 12 of PTFE may be provided between the members 2 and 10 to facilitate sliding. The members may be galvanized or sprayed with metal to protect them against corrosion. Each of the members 1 and 2 may be provided with a pair of diametrically opposed threaded holes 6 in which may be inserted screws 8 and 9 which co-operate with a tie bar 7 to secure the members 1 and 2 together until the bearing is in use. The upper screws 8 may be of such length that they can be used to lift the bearing.
