Abstract

1,181,788. Pneumatic conveying of articles. ELLIOTT BROS. (LONDON) Ltd. 29 Aug., 1967 [8 Sept., 1966], No. 40094/66. Heading B8A. [Also in Divisions G1 and G6] A device for transferring articles, e.g. balls 21, in discrete batches from a tubular input 6 to a tubular output 5 comprises a rotatable member 7 having radial tubular pockets 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 into, and from which the batches of balls are moved under gas pressure when a pair of pockets are aligned with the input 6 and output 5, intermittent rotation of the member 7 placing succeeding pockets into alignment with the input and output. The intermittent motion is derived from a Geneva mechanism 17 secured to the member 7 which is rotatable in a housing 1. Passages 14, 15, 16 of reduced cross-section, connect radially opposed pairs of pockets to permit the passage of gas but not balls therethrough. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the rotatable member moves around a cylindrical core which is rotationally fixed and is provided with a gas passage to connect opposed pockets. This core is however axially displaceable to align a second passage in the core, with the opposed pockets, this second passage being of the same cross-section as the pockets to provide straight through passage for the balls when batching is not required.
