Abstract

1,181,759. Timing ignition; vacuum motors. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Nov.28, 1968 [Dec. 4, 1967], No.56542/68. Headings F1B and F1P. A fluid motor assembly e.g. for controlling the ignition timing of an internal-combustion engine, comprises a housing 52, a pair of flexible diaphragm members 72, 82, each mounted in the housing for independent movement relative to each other with the housing defining a different vacuum chamber for each diaphragm, means connecting each of the chambers to a separate source of fluid varying from a maximum substantially atmospheric pressure level to a minimum sub-atmospheric pressure or vacuum level for reciprocable movement of each of the members as afunction of the changes in pressure acting thereon, spring means 78, 92 biasing each of the diaphragm members towards the other, movable actuating means 24 connected to one of the diaphragm members for movement therewith and means 90 on one of the diaphragm members engageable at times with the other of the members for controlling movement of the latter member in one direction. A stop means may be provided in the path of movement of a first one of the members providing a limited movement of the first diaphragm member.
