June 12, 1967, No.26983/67. Heading F1F. A rotary-piston I.C. engine, as shown, of the kind comprising a three-sided piston which performs a planetary motion within a casing having a bi-arcuate epitrochoidal profile, includes a shaft 4, Figs. 2, 4, with an eccentric 5 carrying the piston 6 wherein the piston and eccentric are formed with axially extending cooling passages 7, 8 having ribs 9, 10 arranged at an angle to the axis of the shaft 4 and directed against rotation through which air or combustible mixture passes before entering the working chambers of the engine through a peripheral inlet port 12. The ribs 9, 10 create an additional super-charging effect of the air or combustible mixture to increase the coefficient of engine charging and the engine power to a level it is stated comparable with rotarypiston I.C. engines having an oil-cooled rotarypiston and air or combustible mixture directly supplied to the working chambers.
