Abstract

1,180,237. Carrier bags. JOHN DICKINSON & CO. Ltd. 28 July, 1967 [1 June, 1966], No. 24424/66. Heading A4G. A method of securing a looped handle to a carrier bag comprises forming holes 9 in a reinforced mouth edge 4 of the bag and securing the ends of the loop 6 on one face through the holes to a retaining member 7a, 7b on the other face. The loop and retaining member, e.g. of suitable plastics, paper, cloth, is secured together by spot welding. The retaining member may be a wall edge fold over, one strip straddling both holes or, if the handle is two-ply, the plies straddle downwards over the reinforced edge and the two-ply handle may be given a tubular cross-section grip. The retaining members 7a, 7b may be flexible and allow the handle to be removed. The bag may have one loop handle engaging a slot in the opposite wall.
