In an amplifier having a first negative feedback path in series with both the input and output circuits of the amplifier, and a second negative feedback path in parallel with both the input and output circuits of the amplifier, the first feedback path takes the form of a twoterminal device #s comprising resistance and reactance in parallel, while the second feedback path is in the form of a T-network # 1 , # 2 , # p , at least one of the series arms of which is resistive: the shunt arm of the T-network is reactive and the ratio of its reactance to the reactance of the two terminal device is made less by 1 than the ratio of the resistance of the said one series arm and the resistance of the two-terminal network. It is shown in the Specification that if (1) the amplifier is terminated in a resistive load Z A and the input series arm # 1 of the T- network is resistive and dimensioned in the manner specified, the input impedance WE of the amplifier may be made real and frequency independent and equal to the resistance of the two-terminal device. The output series arm # 2 may then be reactive and chosen to provide a desired frequency response without affecting the input impedance of the amplifier. If, alternatively (2) the amplifier input source impedance R g is resistive and the output series arm # 2 of the T-network is resistive and dimensioned in the manner specified, the output impedance W A of the amplifier may be made real and frequency independent. The input series arm # 1 may then be made reactive to provide a desired frequency response without affecting the output impedance of the amplifier. An amplifier stage of the first type may be followed by one of the second type by the interposition of a buffer stage which may comprise a grounded-emitter transistor stage with heavy negative feedback.
