Abstract
117,964. Patterson, T. K. Aug. 16, 1917. Open fire-places. - A chamber or dome is provided above the fire, with outlets near its lower parts, so that the hot gases of combustion are retained for some time before passing to the flues. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the outlets take the form of depending tubes g, one on' each side of the fire. Fig. 5 shows a modified arrangement with a central depending outlet pipe m. According to the Provisional Specification, removable inclined baffleplates may be provided within the chamber, which also may extend into the room above or at the sides of the fire-place, and the gases after passing through the chamber may be caused to pass again into the fire in order to consume the smoke. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1104/73.
