Abstract

1,178,738. Syringes. SWEDEN FREEZER MFG. CO. 24 July, 1967 [25 July, 1966], No. 33945/67. Heading A5R. [Also in Division F1] A device for infusing and withdrawing a liquid comprises a support for a syringe barrel X including a cradle 22 and a clamp 32 to hold selectively syringe barrels of various sizes, traverse means 50 for holding selectively fianges of various sizes on syringe plungers, and drive means for moving the traverse means towards and away from the syringe supporting means. As shown, a device which may hold up to three syringes at once and cause each syringe to infuse or withdraw liquid through conduits Z is powered either manually via a handle 170 or by a constant speed reversible electric motor (150) through two gearbox units (Figures 3, 4, not shown) whose ratios are selected with knobs 138, 138'. Each syringe barrel is slotted into a V-shaped cradle 22 and is held by a pivotally arranged clamping arm (34) which may be swung over the barrel and clamped to the barrel by a knob 32. The plunger of each syringe is held to a traversing member 50 by a pair of retaining flanges 72 adjustably held to the traversing member by a slot and screw-on knob 71. In operation the rotation of the handle 170 or the electric motor causes a threaded spindle 18 to rotate which drives the traversing member and the associated syringe plungers relative to the syringe barrels thus causing infusion or withdnawal of liquid. The gearbox units each provide eight speeds, those of the first unit each being a 50% speed reduction on the adjacent speed and those of the second unit each being a 10% reduction on the adjacent speed. A leather faced clutch assembly (160) slips at a predetermined safety loading, or when manual operation is effected at the handle 170.
