Abstract

An apparatus for the preparation of serial dilutions comprises a tube having in the middle a reversible pump, at one end a probe for receiving liquid to be diluted or for delivering such liquid and diluent, and at the other end a reservoir for diluent, the entire tube being filled with diluent. Means are provided whereby the pump is stopped when a predetermined unit volume of the liquid to be diluted has been received into the system, and when the total volume of liquid including diluent expelled is a predetermined multiple of the said unit volume. Peristaltic pumps are preferred. An electromechanical control system is described.
