Abstract

1,176,465. Ship's steering and propulsion unit. HYDROCONIC Ltd. 30 Dec., 1966 [25 March, 1966], No. 13407/66. Heading B7V. A ship's steering system comprises a steerable propulsion nozzle 13 fitted with a trailing edge slave flap rudder or rudders 11. The rudder 11 may be moved in its entirety about a pintle 12 or the nose portion of the rudder forward of the pintle be fixed to the nozzle and the after portion be moved with the pintle, the rudder thus operating with variable camber. A lever mechanism to multiply movement of the rudder when the nozzle is turned is provided by a tiller 15 on the rudder 11 sliding in a bearing 16 on the hull 17 which is free to rotate in the horizontal plane.
