Abstract

1,175,136. Latches; releasable fastenings; power-operated door; releasable pivot. G. A. BRAUN Inc. 20 July, 1967 [14 April, 1967], No. 33573/67. Headings E2A, E2F and E2M. [Also in Division D1] A washing machine tub 11 has, at its front and rear, at least one stud 54 which engages a releasable bearing lock 58 on a supporting frame, power operated means being provided for selectively lifting and lowering one or other end of the tub 11 when the or each stud 54, at that end, moves the respective lock or locks 58 to open position as it is lifted and to closed position as it is lowered. Each bearing lock 58 comprises a pivoted lock cap 60 and a cradle 59 secured by an angle iron 62 to the adjacent upright 48. The cap 60 may be locked in closed position by a pneumatically actuated stud 89. The door 20 is operated by two cylinders 92, 93 mounted by angle irons 94, 96 on uprights and having piston rods 97 connected by the carrier 99 for door 20. The door is guided by guides 101, 102 slidably mounted on angle irons 94, 96. In operation, door 20 is opened, the locking studs 89 of the front caps 60 are removed, those at the rear remaining in place, and cylinders 80 are operated to rotate levers 71, 71 to pivot the front of tub 11 upwardly, studs 54 knocking caps 60 open against springs 103. A trip lever 104 is then operated to release a latch 106 holding the bottom of bin 26 to deposit the laundry. The tub 11 is then lowered the studs 54 reentering cradles 59 and caps 60 being relocked by pins 89. Door 20 is then closed and washing takes place. After washing and drying the rear of the tub is raised, the door is opened and the drum is rotated at low speed to deposit the laundry on conveyer 27.
