Abstract
1,174,244. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. June 21, 1967 [July 8, 1966], No.30717/66. Heading G3P. A manual input to lever 57 is converted to a proportional electrical signal which is transmitted to valve 51 which transmits a pressure signal to chamber 55 to move diaphragm assembly, 27, 28 rightwards to seat disc 17 of valve 15 at 19 and unseat the end of tube 20 from this disc. The right side of piston 5 is thereby exhausted via 24, 30, 29, 31 whereas the left side of the piston still receives fluid via 21, 23, 25. The consequent rightward movement of the piston 5 is fed back via link 7, crank 2, electrical transmission 63 and valve 61 to chamber 65 to balance the control pressure in chamber 55 to restore the diaphragm assembly to the position shown and arrest movement of the piston. When the supply pressure in line 21 falls below a predetermined level, diaphragm 46 rises to break the electrical supply to valve 8 to allow the latter to open to inter-connect opposite sides of the piston to allow direct manual operation of the latter. Solenoid valve 32, 33 defines a variable leak from exhaust line 31. Valves 51, 61 may be as disclosed in Specification 1,174,243. In a modification, the control and feedback pressures are generated by self-lapping valves operated directly.
