Class 103(1) In a compressed air-hydraulically operated brake system, particularly for power vehicles, of the type in which a fluid pressure responsive member, which may be a piston or diaphragm, acts through a hollow stem or piston rod upon a hydraulic master cylinder, the control valve comprising control spring, control piston and double acting valve, which governs the movement of the fluid pressure responsive member, is carried by the piston rod or stem of the working piston or diaphragm. As shown in Fig. 1, the valve member 9 has two valve elements 8 and 10. As shown in the brakes released condition, the valve element 10 is held away from opening 11 in diaphragm 2 thus allowing compressed air from pump 20 through pressure regulator 21 to equalize in the chambers on each side. When the pedal is depressed valve element 10 closes opening 11 and valve element 8 moves away from the hollow piston rod 7 thus allowing pressure to escape from chamber 24 through port 25, the unbalanced force on diaphragm 2 now acting to operate the hydraulic master cylinder 17. The fall of pressure in chamber 24 is transmitted through a pipe 22 to actuate the brakes of a trailer vehicle. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the control valve 48, 46 is incorporated in the servo-piston 41 and is operated by control rod 40 through a pivoted lever' 42.
