Abstract

1,174,099. Boots, &c. AVON RUBBER CO. Ltd. 24 Nov., 1967 [2 Dec., 1966], No. 53996/66. Heading A3B. A tread unit for a shoe comprises a base portion 10 and a number of integral studs 12, the unit being moulded from a hard polyurethane elastomer e.g. having a hardness of from 90 to 98 Shore A. The unit may be a sole or heel or a combined sole and heel unit. The studs 12 may be frustoconical as shown or may be flared where they merge with the base, and may be arranged in a line parallel to the sides and toe of the base, two lines of studs being provided on the inner side as shown. The unit may be produced by compression, injection or cast moulding techniques and may be moulded directly on to a shoe bottom. The unit may be combined with a micro-cellular through sole. The unit is suitable for use with sports shoes e.g. for golf, cricket, football, or athletics.
