Abstract

1,173,987. Jib cranes. RUSTON-BUCYRUS Ltd. 16 Nov., 1967 [9 Dec., 1966], No. 52103/67. Heading B8B. A mobile crane comprises a frame 6 rotatably mounted on a chassis 1, and a boom 10 having its foot attached to conveyer means mounted on the frame 6 and adapted to move the boom foot between an operating position in which the boom foot is disposed adjacent the front end of the frame 6 and a travelling position in which the boom foot is disposed adjacent the back end of the frame 6. The boom top 16 has wheels 15 to support it when the boom is lowered and the boom foot is mounted by hinge pins on arms 25 of the conveyer means, the arms being secured to a torque tube rotated by an hydraulic actuator. When the boom is in the operating position it is releasably secured to the frame 6 by spring- loaded T-bolts. The frame 6 also supports a lowerable A-frame 43 as described in Specification 1,145,606. Rollers 63 rotatably mounted on the frame 6 are engaged by tracks on the boom to support the latter as the boom foot is moved to the travelling position. Between the rollers and rotatably mounted thereon is a boom stop cable drum, Fig. 7 (not shown). Inside the said drum is a return spring drum and a return spring has its ends respectively fixed to the two drums. The stop cable is secured to the boom 10 and prevents the latter being raised beyond a safe working angle. Resiliently mounted rollers 82 support the boom in its travelling position and a pan 84 on the boom supports a cable 53 and a bridle 54. In a second embodiment, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the boom foot is secured to a pair of conveyer chains which move the foot. The rollers 63 are mounted on a member telescopically adjustable relative to the frame 6 by manual, hydraulic or mechanical means.
