Abstract

1,173,597. Anodizing aluminium. ACORN ANODIZING CO. Ltd. Nov. 29, 1966 [Dec. 9, 1965], No.52347/65. Heading C7B. In a method of anodizing aluminium and its alloys the electrolyte used comprises a first acid consisting of glyoxylic acid or any dibasic or polybasic organic acid except oxalic acid, maleic acid or any acid which liberates nitrate ions or chloride ions in aqueous solution, and a second acid different from the first acid and consisting of oxalic acid or glyoxylic acid. The first acid may comprise malonic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, diglycollic acid, malic acid, succinic acid, glutaric acid, itaconic acid, pyromellitic acid, trimellitic acid, citraconic acid, thiomalic acid, thiodiglycollic acid, acetylene dicarboxylic acid, aconitic acid or phthalic acid. The first acid may be present in a concentration ranging from 1% to saturation, and the second acid may be present in a proportion of 0À1%-10% by weight.
