Abstract
1,170,332. Alloys. UNION CARBIDE CORP. Feb.16, 1967 [Feb.21, 1966], No.7457/67. Headings C7A and C7D. A master alloy for use in making Ti-base alloys consists of Mo 20 - 25% V 20 - 25À44% Al and impurities - balance. The impurities may consist of Fe, Si, C, O, H and N; the latter four elements should amount to less than 0À5% in total. The master alloy may be made by igniting a mixture of Al, MoO 3 and V 2 O 5 . To produce a Ti-base alloy (e.g. A1 8% , Mo 1%, V 1%, Ti balance), the master alloy may be crushed, blended with Ti sponge and Al shot, compacted at 40, 000 p.s.i. and room temperature, and the resulting compact electrically melted.
