Abstract

[Also in Divisions G1 and G4] In a speedometer-controlled external visual indicator for a vehicle, with a set of relayoperating photo-electric switches (9, 10, 11) of which each switch corresponds to a different speed and each relay controls corresponding lamps in sets of variously coloured lamps (1<SP>1</SP>, 21, 3<SP>1</SP>), and (1, 2, 3) connected in parallel circuits and disposed internally on a control panel and externally in a speed-signaller, the switches, each including a light source 9 and photo-conductive cell, are disposed in a circular arrangement about the speedometer pointer axle 13, which carries a breaker disc 11 with a slot 12 extending over an arc corresponding to that between adjacent switches. The switches may be at positions corresponding to 0, 30, 6-km/h or 0, 10, 40, 70-km/h. The externally visible speed-signaller may comprise rows of lamps at the front and rear of the vehicle or a transparent plastic dome 19 secured to the vehicle top. Various coloured lamps may be disposed within the dome or lamps 28, Fig. 7, giving white light may be disposed in light zones 221 to 26<SP>1</SP> separated by partitions 27 and the interior surfaces of the various zones given transparent coatings of different colours. When exceeding the highest speed indicated by a steady light the lamp may be caused to " blink."
