Abstract
1,027,603. Monogrammic signs. C. A. HARDAKER. June 9, 1964 [June 12, 1963], No. 23335/63. Heading G5C. A monogrammic sign unit comprises a front screen 12 and a housing 10 divided into compartments 24 . . . 50 by a structure of rearwardly extending walls 32, each compartment containing selectively switched lamps (not shown). Parts of the housing between compartments 24 . . . 50 are blanked off by masks 34. Screen 12 may be transparent glass or plastics with a sheet 14 of translucent material behind it, or screen 12 may be frosted. Light transfer passages 52, 54, 56, 58, which are hooded as shown, transfer light from compartments 38, 36, 46, 48 to the adjacent parts of compartments 28, 30 to ensure that all characters appear the same size (Fig. 6, not shown). The central spot 62 is similarly illuminated from compartments 36 and 38, the aperture (66) (Fig. 4, not shown) being hooded to prevent illumination of compartment 38 from compartment 36 when the letter " D " for example is displayed. A series of units may form one indicating device (Fig. 1, not shown) operated from a keyboard.
