Abstract

1,169,800. Discharge lamps. TESLA NARODNI PODNIK. 24 Feb., 1967 [2 March, 1966], No. 8838/67. Heading H1D. Upward bowing of the discharge in a discharge tube 7 supported in an outer envelope (not shown) of a high-pressure lamp, when the lamp is operated in a horizontal position, is prevented by the magnetic field of a current flowing in longitudinal conductors 1, 2 and 3 forming part of the support structure and connected in series with the tube 7. Transverse nickel strips 4, 5 and 6 support the tube 7 from the nickel wires 1 and 2 which are sealed into a glass stem 10 and form lead-in wires. A molybdenum or nickel lead 3 connects strip 5 to one electrode of the tube, and the other electrode is connected to strip 4. The magnetic circuit thus comprises wire 1, strip 4, the discharge path in the tube 7, lead 3, strip 5, and wire 2. In a modified arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown) the wires 1 and 2 are parts of a single wire which is attached to a support member (9) sealed into the stem 10, and separate lead-in wires are provided.
