[Also in Division G1] In a device for measuring the liquid, contained in a liquid and gas supply a liquid meter is arranged downstream from an enclosure 30 to which a mixture of liquid and gas such as air is supplied through a tube 40 and the arrangement is such that a vacuum created in a pipe 44 is transmitted through a conduit 43, an open valve C4 enclosure 30 and tube 40 to suck liquid and air into the enclosure 30. If the liquid flow through tube 40 is too violent the liquid strikes a deflector 46, provided with apertures in its upper and lower ends, and falls into an annular zone outside the deflector. When the liquid level rises the float 32 separates a closure member 33, of a lower valve C1, from a part 34 opening a flow path of small cross-section to a tube 4. The different vacuum pressures between the enclosure 30 and the interior of part 34 enable the float 32, by means of an abutment 48, to separate part 34 from a seat 28 of a valve C2 to permit liquid to flow through slots 28, if the float 32 continues to rise. The upward movement of the float 32 closes conduit 43, through which air from the enclosure 30 is drawn through a valve C3, C4 of similar costruction to the lower valve C1, C2. An automatic gate valve, Fig. 2 (not shown), is provided in the air line 43.
