Abstract

1,169,513. Ironing-machines. H. J. WEIR. 27 Jan., 1967 [31 Jan., 1966], No. 4265/66. Heading D1A. A feeding mechanism for a laundry ironing machine has grips 6 into which the operator places the corners of an article such as a sheet the grips are then moved into a transfer position by pneumatic cylinders where the corners are held by clamps 4 which move sideways to stretch the leading edge of the article and then move forwards to deposit the article onto a moving conveyor. Interlocking devices are provided to prevent both sets of grips 6 moving into the transfer position at the same time. The grips are spring loaded but the clamps are held together by springs and opened by cams in appropriate positions for taking and releasing the articles. In the transfer position the clamps move in a rearward direction to release the articles from the grips 6. In a modification (not shown) the grips 6 are mounted on pivoted parallel rods and move in an arcuate path.
