Abstract

1,056,880. Folding articles for packaging. KIMBERLY - CLARK CORPORATION. Oct. 29, 1963, No. 42716/63. Heading B8C. [Also in Division D1] In apparatus for folding articles (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), articles 48 are fed on to supports 42 on a conveyer 18 and transported thereby firstly under a pair of spaced rod-like restraining elements 50 and 52 and then into the path of a pair of folding blades 56, 58 mounted for synchronous rotation in vertical planes on either side of conveyer 18. These blades fold overhanging ends of the articles upwards into U-formation. The articles are then brought into the path of folding blades 74, 76, synchronously rotating in a horizontal plane. These blades fold down the upstanding portions of the articles on to the central portion thereof into a closed C formation. The articles then pass under guard 92 and are transferred from their support means by transfer mechanism 100 to a folding and ejection shoot 102. Here, circumferentially spaced rotating fingers 104 (Fig. 6) force the articles downwards through shoot 102 so as to fold them into pockets 106 of an indexing turret 108 to be individually wrapped during turret movement.
