Abstract
1,168,926. Friction clutches. BRITISH MOTOR CORP. Ltd. 17 July, 1968 [27 April, 1967], No. 19410/67. Headings F2C and F2L. [Also in Division H2] In a motor vehicle having disposed transversely therein a power plant comprising as an integrated assembly an I.C. engine, a diaphragm-spring type of clutch 1 and other power transmission mechanism, e.g. change-speed gearing, final-drive differential gear assembly, and universably-jointed drive-shafts, the plant incorporates an A.C. generator 10 which has its stator 11 mounted in the clutch housing 12 and its rotor 13 mounted on supporting means both coaxial and rigid with the clutch pressureplate 7, such generator and supporting means being located at that side of the engine flywheel 6 which is remote from the crank-shaft 5. The supporting means, a plate 15, is bolted at 17 to the plate 7 which is coupled to the flywheel 6 by driving pins 8 and straps 9. An hydraulic servo 24 having an adjustable backstop 25 actuates a clutch release bearing 21 to move the plates 15, 7 axially to disengage the clutch, the clutch driven plate 2 being splined to a crank-shaft primary gear 4.
