1,167,569. Hopper for film casting solutions; sheet casting. P. LEINER & SONS (ENCAPSULATIONS) Ltd. 18 July, 1967, No. 32919/67. Headings B5A and B5B. [Also in Division F2] The level of gelatine in a spreader box, used in conjunction with a drum for casting the gelatine into ribbons or sheets, is controlled by a valve 20 operatively connected to a float 25. The valve comprises a length of hollow cylindrical tubing 30 which has two orifices 31 and 32, the former being disposed within an inlet duct 17 and the latter within the box, and is connected to the float through a bar 26 coaxial with, and attached to, the tubing. The volume of fluid supplied to the box is controlled by the float whereas complete shut-off is attained by manually rotating the float through 180 degrees from the position shown. Gelatine supplied to the box leaves the same through an opening 21 formed between the box front wall 13, in the form of an adjustable doctor blade, and the drum (16, Fig. 2, not shown), the rear wall (14) of the box tapering towards the front wall and having attached to its lowermost periphery a resilient bottom plate (15) which presses against the drum.
