1,167,139. Straightening. MASCHINENUND BOHRGERATE-FABRIK ALFRED WIRTH & CO. K.G. 29 Dec., 1966 [29 Dec., 1965], No. 58132/66. Heading B3E. A straightening machine includes staggered roller support shafts, each of which receives an exchangeable roller, the distance between the rollers being adjustable in a longitudinal direction of the machine, and a second set of straightening rollers, rollers of said second set resting on rollers mounted on the straightening roller support shafts, the latter rollers being the original rollers or being support rollers taking the place of the original straightening rollers. A straightening machine having staggered roll support shafts 1 on which working rolls are mounted is converted to a straightening machine having a larger number of working rolls by using the original working rolls, or cylindrical support rolls 8 substituted therefor, as backing rolls for new work rolls 9, 11, 15. Roll carriers 12 may be pushed on some of the shafts 1 so that a support roll 8 on a shaft 1 backs new work rolls 9 mounted on the carrier 12, a further work roll 11 and its backing roll 10 also being mounted on the carrier 12. Roll carriers 13 pushed on the other shafts 1 each carry a work roll 15 backed by a support roll 14 on the shaft 1. Alternatively roll carriers 12 may be mounted on all the shafts 1, or carriers, each with just the two rolls 9, may be mounted on each shaft 1. The rolls 10, 11 and 14, 15 are vertically adjustable.
