Abstract

116,657. Kohler, C. Dec. 15, 1917 Moulds. - Before joining one metal such as copper to another of higher melting point such as iron, the surface of the latter is prepared by fusing on, by means of a reducing flame, a coating of metal of a lower melting-point, for instance the same metal as that to be joined to it. In casting, a stream of the first metal is allowed to flow over the coated surface long enough to melt it. The metal may be merely cast on to the coated piece, or a bar 13 of copper may be arranged adjacent to the coppered end 12 of the iron bar 11, and joined to it by pouring molten copper between them and allowing it to flow out of the vents 15, 16 for some time.
