Apparatus for steaming textile material comprises a steaming chamber 1, a plurality of roller elements e.g. pulleys 3, 4, arranged therein with their axes of rotation substantially vertical, an endless chain or tape element 2 passing round the roller elements in a zigzag path, fabric engaging means e.g. pins or nippers on the chain element 2, fabric inlet and outlet openings 5, 6 in the chamber, guiding means 8 outside the chamber and in the vicinity of the inlet and outlet openings to define a path for the chain element outside the chamber, and a steam supply source connected to the chamber. In a preferred embodiment, the fabric 9 hangs vertically from the chain element during its passage through the chamber.
