Abstract
1,197,887. Yarn dyeing apparatus. HENRY ASHWELL & CO. Ltd. 17 Nov., 1967 [17 Nov., 1966], No. 51515/66. Heading D1L. Apparatus for the random dyeing (defined) of textile yarns comprises a conveyor for the yarn, means for locating the yarn to be dyed transversely across the conveyor from yarn locating means on one side of the conveyor to yarn locating means on the other side, means for applying dyestuff to the yarn in its passage on the conveyor to produce random dyeing thereof and means for setting said dyestuff on said yarn and finally means for removing the yarn from said conveyor. Yarn 3, either singly or as a plurality of strands, is fed from a supply means 5 through a reciprocating means to be located alternately around upstanding pins 2 of each of a pair of parallel chain conveyors 1, and thus transversely of the conveyor. The yarn is passed beneath a plurality of spray heads 13, which supplies dye of a single colour or of several colours, mounted for motion either transversely of the direction of motion of the belt or normal to the plane of the belt, or both so that the area covered by one particular dye is randomly varied. Subsequently the dyed yarn passes through a steam heated setting chamber, a washing bath and finally a drying chamber (Fig. 2 not shown). In one example yarn of 3000 denier was passed at a linear speed of 1" per sec. beneath spray heads spraying Fryalan Orange RL, Brown GRL, Yellow GL and Grey BL. The yarn was then set at 195‹C and humidity of 80%. In a further example relaxed Acrylic yarn of 2/28 count was sprayed with Astrozone Violet F3RL, Mascilon Red BL and Panacryl Blue E5G. The yarn was set at 105‹C and 80% humidity.
