[Also in Division B8] An agricultural machine in the form of a transport vehicle 3, Fig. 1, towed behind a tractor (not shown) comprises an endless belt 1 (or screw or other conveyer) on a frame 2 driven intermittently through a ratchet device 13 (from a power source not shown), by a shaft 8, a reduction gear 9 with a drive shaft 10 carrying a crank 11 with a rod 12 acting as a stroke element for the ratchet device 13. Material is carried to the end of the vehicle 3 to fall to the ground, into a storage bin, on to a further conveyer or to be spread on the ground by a spreader (not shown). The ratchet device 13 comprises a free wheel 14 fixed on a shaft 7, an arm 15, a return spring 16 and an adjusting screw 17 used to adjust the stroke of the arm 15 (the rod 12 having a sliding connection with the arm 15 - see Fig. 4). In order to stop the belt 1 without altering the adjustment made by the screw 17 a locking device 24 is provided comprising a cam 25 fixed to the free wheel 14 and a detent 26 on the lower part 27 of a pawl 28 pivoted on a belt 29. The detent 26 can engage the cam 25 at the forward end position of the arm 15 the movement of the pawl 28 being limited by a stop 32 (a catch 33 prevents the pawl 28 from moving too far in the release position, a spring 35 holds the pawl 28 in either of its two positions). Fig. 4 shows a modification wherein a second locking device 48 is provided comprising a pawl 49 arranged to co-operate with a cam 52 which may be adjusted in position along a slot 54 to give a second pre-selected stroke of the arm 15. As shown in Fig. 4 both pawls 28 and 49 are remotely controlled by ropes 45, 46 and 59, 60, pawl 28 also having a hand lever 37. With this embodiment different rates of feed of material to a spreader may be pre-set for uphill and downhill operation.
