Abstract

1,165,839. Electrostatic recording. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. Dec. 20, 1967 [Jan.4, 1967], No. 57989/67. Heading G2H. In an image recording device, the supply reel for record sheet material has a hollow core in which the developer, either liquid or powder is contained. In one embodiment, see Fig. 5a, the hollow core 22 is closed by a spring-loaded valve 24, 26, movements of which are controlled by a metering means comprising a float 30 in the developer tank 10, a switch 31, solenoid 32, plunger 33, pivot 41 and insulating pad 42. Thus, as the developer level falls in tank 10, pad 42 rises to close switch 31 actuating plunger 33 to open valve means 24, 26. Developer then flows along chute 23 until the level in the tank rises sufficiently to cause switch 33 to open. In a second embodiment, see Fig. 5b the end of the core is sealed by a rapturable membrane 29 which maybe pierced by a knife 40 to permit dispensing of the developer.
