Abstract
1,163,787. Railway vehicle undercarriages; adapted to carry special loads. VEREINIGTE ÍSTERREICHISCHE EISEN- und STAHLWERKE A.G. 16 Dec., 1966 [28 Dec., 1965], No. 56489/66. Heading B7L. A railway car for transporting refining vessels, particularly top-blowing converters comprises a load supporting frame 1, Fig. 5, mounted on four bogies 3 arranged at the corners of a square and each being rotatable about a vertical axis through 90 degrees and having two pairs of wheels, the frame also being provided with four hydraulic lifting cylinders 2 whereby the frame can be directly supported from the ground to permit rotation of the bogies in order that their wheels can engage either track rails G 1 or G 2 . Each bogie comprises an H-shaped frame the cross beam of which carries a ball socket and vertical pin engaging a ball member on the frame 1. The pin is connected by a lever arm which is connected to one end of an hydraulic cylinder the other end of which is pivoted to the frame 1. The lever arms may be coupled together to operate in unison. One side of the H-frame is pivoted to the cross beam and the bogie axles are flexibly mounted in the H-frame as described with reference to Fig. 9 (not shown).
