Abstract

1,163,763. Push-button electric switches; indicators. MAXSON ELECTRONICS CORP. 19 Sept., 1966 [22 Sept., 1965], No. 41726/66. Heading H1N. A switch push-button 24, Fig. 2, which is readily removable from a switch housing 11 has longitudinal stepped slots 52 slidably guided on lugs 55 on the inner wall of the casing 11 the outward movement being normally limited by a step 62 on the groove but on insertion or removal of the push-button 24 it is moved and rotated to spring the grooves 52 apart to permit sloping steps 58 to ride over the lugs 55. An indicator lamp holder 17, 18, Fig. 1, is spring pressed into the centre cylindrical recess 56 of the push-button 24 when removed from the housing and is yieldingly retained by its flange 19 behind inner detents 54 on skirt end 45 of the push-button 24. On reinsertion of the push-button 24 into the housing the centre contact 20 of the lamp holder 18 engages a fixed spring contact 23b and the flange 19 is forced over a detents 43 of a side contact arm 23 so that the lamp holder 18 is locked against endwise movement relative to the housing 11 while permitting the push-button to continue its movement for operation of the switch. Lugs 44, Fig. 3, limit over-travel. The pushbutton 24 actuates a snap-action switch forming the subject of Specification 1,163,764 and comprises a push-bush device with a plunger pawl guide 38 carrying a pivoted pawl 40a which is yieldingly restrained to an axially central position by a coil spring 41 engaging a flat face 37 and which also thereby acts as a return spring for the push-button 24. The pawl 40a alternately engages opposite sides of a pivoted cam 34 mounted on trunnions 51 of a fixed terminal 29 also carrying a pivot pin 35 for one end of a snap-action tension spring 30. The other end of the spring 30 is connected to a movable contact 31, 33 pivoted to the terminal 29 and movable by the spring 30 between fixed contact terminals 28. In a modification the pivot points may be offset so that the assembly is retractive and the contacts are maintained closed only when the push-button is held depressed.
