Abstract
1,163,554. Steam generators. FOSTER WHEELER CORP. 21 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 47411/66. Heading F4A. In a once through forced flow vapour generator with a furnace wall enclosure formed by welded together panels of vertical tubes, the fluid flows in series from a first header 20 through a first vertical pass 22 and through downcomer 24 to a second vertical pass 28 which is spaced from the pass 22 by buffer panels 32 fed with mixed fluid from the header 20 and the downcomer 24 so that the enthalpy of panels 32 is intermediate that of panels 22, 28 whereby expansion stresses are reduced. The fluid flows through a floor pass 12 and the header 20 and after flowing through passes 22, 32, 28, flows to a U-shaped header 42 for a further panels 40 forming the side and rear walls, from which the fluid flows to tubes in the upper part of the furnace. The headers 30 for the buffer panels 32 are fed from the downcomers 24 through pipes 34 of predetermined bore and from the headers 20 thraugh pipes with control valves 36. The panels 28 form the front corners of the furnace.
