Abstract

Heading G1U [Also in Division H1] A scanning device for connecting low voltage signal sources such as thermocouples 23 one at a time to an amplifier 20 or similar electronic circuit for measuring purposes by a capacitancetransfer technique comprises two concentric circular tracks of alternate short and long contact segments 13, 14, on an insulating support, traversed by two rotatable resilient brushes 17 connected by a series CR combination. The brushes are moved by a motor-rotated spindle. As the brushes 17 move over a pair of long segments 14 the capacitor C charges to a voltage near that developed by thermocouple 23; the brushes then move on to the adjacent pair of short segments to connect the CR combination across the input of the high impedance amplifier 20. Optional further long segments 24 provide discharge segments, the segments of adjacent tracks being connected together. A resistance-capacitance filter may be connected across each pair of input terminals 21, 22. Any number of pairs of tracks may be provided on one support member, with the pairs slightly offset, Fig. 5 (not shown), all the short segments being connected to terminals 18, 19 and there being a corresponding number of pairs of brushes 17. The tracks may be on a disc, or around the surface of a cylinder.
