Abstract

1,161,389. Selective printing. HASLER A.G. 18 Jan., 1968 [19 Jan., 1967], No. 2843/68. Heading B6F. A high-speed printer comprises a continuously rotating type drum 1, a cam drum 3 revolving in synchronism therewith, the cam drum including cams 5 carried in recesses in the drum and selectively movable to project radially from the drum by electromagnets 6 and to strike sector-shaped hammers 10 to effect an impression. The cams 5 are restored by members 7 associated with the electromagnets. The type drum 1 is made up of a plurality of type discs, one for each character position, and each having a corresponding hammer 10. The cam drum 3 comprises a plurality of discs 4 each carrying two adjacent rows of cams. One electromagnet is provided for each row of cams, the electromagnets being arranged in staggered array disposed around the periphery of the cam drum 3. The type characters on the type discs constituting the drum 1 are correspondingly staggered. The electromagnets are energized in response to electrical input impulses through a contact disc arrangement 9. The hammers 10 rebound after effecting an impression and are retained in the rest position by springs and damping elements (not shown). Two impressions may be effected simultaneously, a second type drum 101 and corresponding print hammers 110 being provided.
