Abstract

Spherical metal particles of close tolerances are produced by discharging a thread of the liquid metal from a nozzled outlet of a vessel to pass an electrode near the nozzle outlet, the nozzle and electrode being maintained at different electric potentials to break up the thread into fragments which contract to form the spherical particles. The electrode may comprise one or more plates with circular holes therethrough and coaxial with the nozzle outlet.
