Abstract
1320809 Plasma spray gun SEALECTRO CORP 10 Sept 1971 42278/71 Heading B2F A plasma spray gun comprises a nozzle 14 having a main conduit 15 for the passage of powdered heat fusible material mixed with a plasma and an opening 17 into the conduit 15 to supply the powdered material to the plasma, the nozzle having a flared conical surface 20 at its interior end forming a first electrode for an electric arc, a second electrode being formed by an axial cylinder 22, a gas distribution disc 25 holding cylinder 22 in place, the disc having an annular space therein connected to a source of gas and a plurality of angular eject conduits 33 constructed so that gas issuing therefrom rotates through the arc space formed by the electrodes and through the nozzle. In alternative embodiments (Figs. 4, 7, not shown) the disc (25A) is an insulater rather than a conductor, so that only the cylinder 22 and attached cone 21 need be electrically connected, all other metal parts being earthed, and the shape of the nozzle is adapted to reduce turbulent flow.
