Abstract
1,159,560. Adjustable spreader bars. LIFTING & ENG. SERVICES (LANCASHIRE) Ltd. 12 July, 1968 [6 May, 1967: 6 Feb., 1968], Nos. 21154/67 and 5779/68. Heading B8H. A lifting beam 10, Fig. 1, has a pair of attachment brackets 15 which are slidable along the beam and are frictionally locked in position by screws 20 turned by tommy-bars 21. The beam 10 is of rectangular cross-section and is embraced by the brackets 15. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, the beam 25 is of I-shaped cross-section and the brackets 29 each run on the bottom flange on two pairs of balls. The load is suspended from pins 39 on triangular plates 38 which are pivotally suspended from the brackets 29. The plates 38 are centralized by springs, but when the plates are pulled to one side either by an unbalanced load or by tilting of the beam, the upper corners of the plate frictionally engage the lower face of the flange of the girder to hold the bracket in place. Fig. 10 shows an end view of an embodiment which is similar to that of Fig. 4 except that the beam is rectangular and fabricated from opposed channel sections 50. The triangular plates 38 are supported on balls 33 by T-shaped members 52. The triangular plates 38 are preferably provided with serrated hard steel inserts at the corners which engage the supporting beam.
