Abstract

1,158,932. Venetian blinds. P. S. LAGESON. 13 Dec., 1966 [16 Dec., 1965; 16 Aug., 1966], No. 55878/66. Heading E1J. A venetian type slat blind or shutter operating mechanism by which the slats may be tilted and raised or lowered by the operation of a single cord loop 15 in conjunction with a slipping friction clutch 32 comprises a cord housing 1 containing rotatable clamping disc 14 clamping the operating cord 15 and provided with ratchet teeth 19 with which engages one or other of two pawls 22 of a locking lever 20 when contacted by either side of the cord loop and as shown is held in position by the weight of the slats through the shaft 9 which carries them on lift cords 30, and through coupling member 8 and gearing coupling the ratchet 14-19 to the shaft 9, the pulley 32 which together with the tilt cords 33 forms the friction clutch, being secured on the shaft 9. To release the ratchet mechanism the right hand side 17 of the loop is pulled down and this releases the blind weight of the pawl 22 and the pawl becomes disengaged by the lever 20 reverting to its vertical position. The blind may be held in any position by contacting the lever 24 with the portion 17 of the loop and causing the ratchet pawl to take up the position shown. To tilt the slats 26 cord 17 is pulled downwards to release the ratchet pawl and. then either side of the loop pulled to effect the tilt in the desired direction. The head rail 10 contains wall portions 39, 40, 41 having slots 46, 47, 48 to accommodate the bush mounting the lift roller 28 and pulley 32, the unit 39, 40, 41 .having a flange 44 which fits in an aperture 38 in the head rail to position the walls correctly.
