Abstract
1,158,545. Preventing bacterial growth on filter. SERCK R. & D. Ltd. 24 Oct., 1966 [25 Oct., 1965], No. 45048/65. Heading B1D. [Also in Division C7] The formation of bacterial growth (slimes) on a metal filter element immersed in a liquid is prevented or inhibited by introducing into the liquid an electrode made of a metal higher in the electromotive series than the metal of the filter and directly connecting the electrode to the filter externally of the liquid. As shown an iron or iron base filter element 1 is clamped between 'but insulated from parts 2, 3 of a filter casing and is connected by a conductor 12 to a magnesium electrode 7 insulated from the casing part 3. Reference is made to mounting the electrode on, but spaced by insulating material from the filter element.
