Abstract

1,155,957. Purifying phosphoric acid. FISONS FERTILIZERS Ltd. 4 Jan., 1967 [7 Oct., 1965], No. 42535/65. Heading C1A. A process for removing sulphuric acid from phosphoric acid which has been prepared by the wet process which involves concentrating by evaporation the phosphoric acid to more than 38% by weight P 2 0 5 and then treating with CaO, CaCO 3 or a calcium phosphate at 45‹ to 95‹ C. then separating the precipitate and recovering phosphoric acid substantially free from H 2 50 4 . Preferably a stoichiometric amount of CaO is used for the H 2 SO 4 present. Alkali metal hydroxide or alkali metal salt may be added to the solution to remove fluorine.
