Wrapping machines.-Sheets are wrapped around a reel having an aperture in one end thereof with portions of the wrapper projecting beyond the end, by a machine comprising a reel conveyer 6, means for placing a wrapper at the other end of the reel, an annular device with radial brushes 10, means 7 for pushing reel and wrapper horizontally through the annular device, means 11a 11b for twisting the trailing wrapper portions into a tail, rotary clamp means 13 to convey the reel to a position where the tail projects upwardly, and a punch 22 for forcing the tail into the reel aperture. As described, yarn packages, e.g. reels 8 are delivered by a reciprocating conveyer 6, Fig. 5, raised and pushed by a piston 7 with a wrapper 5, cut from a web fed from a roll 31, into a unit 9 where radial brushes 10 fold the paper along the length of the reel. A sliding gripper 12 conveys the reel to one of four clamps 13, adjustable for different package sizes (see also Fig. 6, not shown) on a rotatable head 15 whereupon sets of parallel blades 11a,11b move in opposition to fold the paper to sinuous form where it projects beyond the trailing end of the reel. The head 15 now rotates through 90 degrees and a punch 22 is lowered to insert the folded paper end into the central hole of the reel. Further rotation through 90 degrees enables the reel to be removed from the clamp 13 by the elements 23, 24. Reciprocating conveyer.-As shown in Fig. 5, the conveyer 6 comprises rotatably mounted lead screws 34 on which threaded dogs 35 are displaceable by turning handle 37 to adjust the dog separations. The arrangement is carried by a vertically and horizontally reciprocable carriage 33<SP>1</SP> so that reels 38 are periodically and individually inserted into the machine.
